The earliest use of glass probably occurred in ancient Egypt where glass items were considered luxuries found only in the tombs of priests and royalty. The glass in King Tut’s pendant was made with the help of a meteorite that crashed into the Egyptian desert melting the sand forming a type of glass called tektite, which comes from the Greek word tektos meaning molten.
