We covered an article last week on raining fish and frogs, the effects they had on the areas it occurred and the broken windshields from the phenomenon. If you thought the weird train stopped there, than you are dead wrong. Hop aboard as we dive into 17 real cases of objects falling from the sky, all with the potential to break a windshield.
Falling Object #1: Meat
1876 in southern Bath County, an event took place known as the Kentucky Meat-Shower. A local woman, Mrs Allen Crouch said she saw from her kitchen window that pieces of meat the size of snowflakes falling from the sky. Mrs Crouch stated that there was not a cloud in the sky. Local “tasters” of the phenomenon said it tasted like Mutton of Venison. There were also reports of much larger chunks falling around town. While the smaller chunks would not be enough to damage your windshield, the larger chunks would break your windshield.
Falling Object #2: Fish
The Falling Fish Phenomenon is common enough to have an official explanation. Scientists believe a whirlwind/tornado over water called a “Waterspout” sucks the fish up into the sky and as it dissipates they fall towards the ground again. A recent instance of this took place in Milton, Massachusetts. A fish falling from several thousand feet is most certainly enough to destroy your windshield.
Falling Object #3: Money
Most of us would take a broken windshield if it came with falling money. It is a phenomenon we all wish would happen to us. It rained money in Rome at the Piazza Venezia in 1976, when a plane dropped 500-lire, 1,000-lire, and 10,000-lire bank notes on the people below. While the bills themselves did not break any windshields, there were reports of broken windshields due to the frenzy.
Falling Object #4: Human Feces
On Sunday, October 18, 1992, residents of Woodinville, Washington witnessed an attack some of them described as ‘poop-bombs’. Several baseball-sized chunks of greenish ice pummeled through living rooms, bedrooms, and windshields. As the strange ice bombs melted, they began to smell bad. Within 2 days, the Federal Aviation Administration stated that it was human waste from a leaky United Airlines sewage system. Apparently, raining ‘poop-bombs’ from planes are not that uncommon. There are several reports of these smelly surprises bombing buildings and cars. A local Woodinville man stated, “It’s a good thing none of us was killed!”.
Falling Object #5: Mysterious Documents
Bob Hill, the owner of WHRL, a radio station in North Greenbush, New York witnessed “twirling specks” falling from a great height. He followed these documents to a hayfield where they landed, to a great surprise. When Hill returned to the radio station, documents in hand, he realized he was holding two formulas with accompanying graphs for “normalized extinction” and the “incomplete Davis-Greenstein orientation”. There is still no explanation for this phenomenon. The Davis-Greenstein orientation is used in astrophysics. While these paper documents were not enough to break his windshield, Hill is just lucky they were not still in the briefcase that was most likely used to carry the documents when they fell as that certainly would have been enough to send him calling his local windshield replacement shop.
Falling Object #6: Human Body
This is probably the most terrifying of the stories we will share today. A San Diego woman was sitting in her vehicle with her 8-month old son, when suddenly a human body came crashing through her windshield. Mary C. Fuller and her infant son suffered minor lacerations from the event. She had to replace her windshield, as well as probably needed some minor therapy. The body fell from a Pacific Southwest Airlines Jetliner, which exploded after a terrible collision with a smaller plane.
Falling Object #7: Hay
These strange events took place in England. In 1977, the town of Devizes, a giant cloud of hay permeated the area. By tea-time, handful sized chunks of hay were raining down upon the town, smashing everything caught in the storm. Although a single straw of hay seems rather harmless, large chunks and bails can be extremely heavy and dangerous, especially when falling from considerable distances. This also happened again in Basildon, Essex, and South Wonston, England in 1992. Our research showed no explanations offered for this phenomenon.
Falling Object #8: A 3,902-Lb Stone
On March 8, 1976, the Chinese City of Jirin in Manchuria witnessed the largest meteorite fall (recorded) in history. There were over 100 (200 lb) stones found around the city, the largest of which weighed in at almost 4,000 lbs! You would be lucky to walk away from an event like this with just a broken windshield. If any of these rocks struck your vehicle, you would most likely walk away shopping for a new vehicle. Although some of the residents did luck out with just broken windshields.

17 Objects are lot to cover in one day. We will be back tomorrow to finish with the remaining 9 objects known to fall from the sky and damage your windshield.
